Errm – it seemed like a good idea at the time!! It was curiosity, mainly. It’s like solving a very big puzzle. Sometimes the puzzle is small and practical – how do I get this !!!* experiment to work properly? Sometimes it’s bigger – can I come up with a theory that explains all of these experiments? But it’s a puzzle.

I did think about becoming a medical doctor for a while. But then I realised that I wanted to discover and learn new stuff, not memorise a list of body parts! I’ve always been curious and interested in how things work, and now I get to do that as a job, which is pretty cool. Running an experiment and discovering something that no one else has is awesome! Although that is balanced out by the number of experiments that just make you go ‘Huh??!’

The more science I learn, the more I realise how little I actually know! But that’s half the fun.
