After dropping my baby off at Nursery, I head to either my teaching ‘home’ or my research lab. A teaching day will typically mean that I am talking to Medical Students in tutorials, or possibly giving a lecture or working in a lab class.
A research day will involve time reading papers, writing grants and papers, time in the lab working with proteins and kit, and making sure that my student has all the papers, chemicals and ideas he needs to do his work. If I’m lucky I might get to go to a research seminar to hear a scientist talk about their work.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would put the money towards building some hands-on models to demonstrate how the analysers we work with (mass spectrometers) function, which could be taken to roadshows and science fairs

My Interview
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Often tired (mummy)
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Honestly? Not much, I was well-behaved most of the time.
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
To get my lab well-funded, to advance my field of science dramatically, to see my daughter become a talented young woman (not necessarily in that order)
