Through most of my time at school, until I was about 14 or 15, mine was definitely English – I liked reading and creative writing. But for O-level English we had to write nothing but summaries of passages which had been read to us, or summaries of stories we’d read… which I found so dull that it rather put me off.

Chemistry was always my favourite science, but I definitely wouldn’t say it was my favourite school subject until the 6th form. And then my other two A levels were Maths (which I never liked much!) and German (which had too much homework!) – so Chemistry was the winner.

My favourite subjects were geography (physical not human), history and science. I also really liked art. I was a geek at school and enjoyed the vast majority of my subjects. Having said that, swimming in our outside and unheated pool during PE wasn’t always fun!
